The Rainbow Six Siege Esports World Cup gets underway this August, from 4-15 August. 22 teams will take part in the event, competing over a 2-phase play-in, a group stage and the playoffs for a share of the $2 million prize pool. The Esports event will take place at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles in Paris, France and is organised by the Esports Foundation and ESL FACEIT Group.
How the play-ins and main event work
The play-ins determine which teams will make the group stage. 8 teams are split into 2 groups for phase 1 of the play-ins. They compete through a double-elimination bracket, with the upper bracket semifinals played as a single-map series. All other matches, including the upper bracket final and lower bracket final, are played to the best of 3 games. The top 2 teams from each group qualify for phase 2 of the play-ins.
Phase 2 of the play-ins is a 4-team single-elimination bracket. The top 2 teams qualify for the group stage.
The group stage features 16 teams, which are split between 2 groups of 8. These groups follow a double-elimination format. Once again, the opening match is played to the best of 1 game, but remaining matches are played to the best of 3 games. The top 8 teams from the group stage advance to the playoffs.
The playoffs follow a single-elimination bracket, where matches are played to the best of 3 games. However, the Grand Final is a best-of-5 series. Before the Grand Final, there’s a third-place match between the 2 losing teams from the semifinals.
